What is a yacht cruise? There are a few different types of yacht cruises. You can charter a yacht and take it out for the day yourself or you can join in on a yacht cruise with a captain and other passengers.

The type of cruise you choose to embark on is your decision to make, but before you set sail for the day, there are a few things you need to pack. The last thing you want to do is find yourself stuck on a yacht in the middle of the ocean without a specific essential. To better prepare for your yacht cruise, no matter what type of cruise you decide to take, continue reading below.

Our yacht cruise guide will tell you everything you need to know about what to pack before setting sail!

1. Waterproof Phone Case

A waterproof phone case is a great item to have because it allows you to keep your phone on you without the worry of it getting wet. There are universal waterproof phone cases, which will easily fit any type of phone into it. You simply slip your phone into the plastic pouch and seal it closed.

You can also keep cash, your ID, and credit cards in here too. That way, everything you need is in one spot that you can carry around your neck on a lanyard. It’s much better than keeping these items stored away in a bag that you then have to go back and forth to while trying to enjoy your trip.

2. Motion Sickness Tablets

If you’re known to feel motion sickness at times, then you must bring your motion sickness medication. If you’re not one who normally feels motion sickness, then still pack your motion sickness medication just in case. This is especially true for anyone who’s never been on a cruise before.

Being at sea for several hours could cause you to feel motion sickness even if you’ve never dealt with it before. It’s always better to be safe than sorry, so don’t forget to pick some medication up on the way and throw it in your bag.

3. Cooling Towel

During the day, you may feel a more intense heat coming from the sun. This happens when you’re out in the middle of the ocean with the sunlight reflecting all around you. Prepare for hot weather if it’s a sunny day and bring your cooling towels.

Cooling towels can be placed around your neck or on your forehead to help you cool down quickly. You’ll be glad you brought one after sitting in the sun for several hours.

4. Water and Healthy Snacks

Your yacht cruise will most likely have beverages and snacks available, but it’s never a bad idea to pack some of your own as well. This is an even better idea if you’re attending a booze cruise. Packing healthy snacks high in protein and lots of water will help you feel energized and healthy during the entire cruise.

Be sure to continuously drink water during the entire cruise if you’re out in the sun a lot. This will prevent you from feeling dehydrated.

5. Your Favorite Music

When sailing on the sea for an entire day, you’re going to want great music to listen to. The yacht you sail on should have speakers that connect to a device via BlueTooth. Be sure to bring a playlist of all your favorite music and then ask the captain how to connect it to the speakers.

Music on the yacht is what makes it a party. You and everyone else on the yacht will be up and dancing in no time.

6. Sunscreen, Sunglasses, and a Sunhat

There are a few boating essentials that should be remembered no matter what type of yacht cruise you go on. As long as it’s during the day, you need these essentials: sunscreen, sunglasses, and a sunhat. The more protected from the sun you are, the better.

Even if it’s an overcast day, you still need to come prepared with these items. Make sure to reapply sunscreen every 30 minutes and keep your sunglasses on while on the exterior of the yacht. A sunhat is also good because it’ll protect your face, neck, and shoulders from the sun.

7. A Safe Pair of Shoes

Don’t forget you’re going to be on a boat. When boarding a yacht, it’s easy to forget that you’re actually traveling on the water at times. Even though you might be on a luxury yacht, you still need to dress with safety in mind.

Wear a safe pair of boating shoes that’ll prevent you from slipping and injuring yourself. If you need to, then pack safe boating shoes in your bag to switch into when enjoying the exterior portion of the yacht.

8. Wind Resistant Clothing

It can get a bit windy while sailing on a yacht. It’s a good idea to bring some wind-resistant clothing in case of an extra-windy day. If you plan on being on the yacht after the sun goes down, then these items are even more essential.

A windbreaker jacket and pants can easily fit over your outfit and will help keep you warm once the wind begins to pick up.

9. Your Must-Have Toiletries

When planning to spend an entire day on a yacht, it’s beneficial to have all your must-have toiletries with you. These items might include soap, toothbrush, toothpaste, lotion, insect repellent, medications, deodorant, hairbrush, feminine products, and more. You might be able to find a travel pack of toiletries to bring along with you.

You might not realize it now, but once you’re on the yacht for a few hours, you’ll be glad you have these items.

10. Water Gear and Toys

Not all yachts will stop for a day of water play. This depends on the type of yacht sailing or cruise you’re embarking on. However, if you do plan to stop and get off the yacht to have fun in the water, then be sure to have all your favorite water gear and water toys.

This is especially true if traveling with little ones.
